Remembrance Day @ Labuan Memorial Park

Remembrance Day is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. It's an annual event which is held on the 11th hour, 11th day of the 11th month of the year. At Labuan World War II Memorial Park, it is to commemorate 4,000 Australian, New Zealand, and British Allied servicemen who had lost their lives during the occupation of the Japanese at Labuan (which was renamed as Maida Island by the Japanese at that time).

Wreath of artificial poppies, as symbol of remembrance, was placed onto one of the soldier's memorial plate. Poppy is worn on lapel as shown of remembrance too.

Ring around Sun (Sun Halo) @ Labuan

Took this shot after a cousin of mine SMS me to look up the sky. Only able to see the rainbow around sun after putting on my sunglass as the sun is too bright. This sun halo is formed by thin layer of ice crystal appear at high atmosphere.

Side notes: A few photo of "strange" phenomena occur around the sun halo published by the one of the local daily headline. I really DOUBT it's not caused by reflection of lens (some more it's taken from camera phone lens) and finally found this which explain everything. Probably this is the biggest joke ever on Unidentified Flying Object. :P

I was on a shooting activity with my friend to capture the sunset facing the South China Sea @ Labuan when I saw a boy helping his dad spreading the fishing net. So, I thought it will be great if I capture this action in silhouette effect.

Hope it's not too late to post this photo. It was once-in-a-life-time opportunity to have The Curve & One Utama sponsoring fireworks display at the same time. This shot is the best I can get. The fireworks at The Curve will always be my favourite (About 11 minutes long). One Utama does not seem to be too generous on its fireworks probably due to the huge publicity in the media. (Less varieties & about 7 minutes long). Anyway, looking forward for a good photographing experience in Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2007!!

Last but not least, peace to the world and hope everyone has a good start ahead in 2007. I want to dedicate this to my wife and son as well. Cheers!!!

Panning Technique

This is the first time I did panning technique. It's really challenging. The TAMIYA Asia Cup Qualifying Series was held in the Oval, One Utama. This shot was taken during the practice session. With such low light condition & no fast lense, I had to use ISO 1600 to get my shots. It's a wonder experience.

Standing out like an egg...

I once saw one of my friend showing me the photo of a standing egg. Last Saturday, after washing the eggs I bought from grocery, I was trying my luck to give it a try. In less than 5 minutes....Bingo! Quickly I grabbed my camera and took this shot. :P I managed to google a site that talk about standing eggs.

Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park

Made a trip to KL Butterfly Park. Entrance fee is RM5 + RM2 (with camera). It's really hard to shoot these fast-moving creatures. Shot all without flash and with the help of natural sunlight. More here.

World Cup Fever

In about 3 weeks from now, the world will gonna experience the once-in-four-year football fever. Yes, it's the (FIFA) World Cup. The media has been advertising heavily recently to boost up their sales during this period.

This shot was taken during a futsal match I watched last Friday night. I had cropped the photo to have a tighter view and added the zoom blur to make the ball more standout.

Fashion On 1 - Amber Chia

Just bought my new Sigma 70-300mm APO DG Macro lense. Went to One Utama to test shot @ 2pm yesterday. It was my first time in front of the stage with all the photographers. And I was very lucky! Amber Chia was among the models in this bridal show. I should admit that she's very good and unique among the other models on stage. You could feel the adrenalin rush as everybody was trying to get the best shot out of her. Here's one of the shot I had taken:

Too bad I didn't have a Speedlite yet (This will be in my wish list soon :)). Most of the shots come out dark or blur :(. Yih Zy (A nice guy I just met there) was kind enough to lend me his 420ex during the 6pm session. The experience was fabulous.

Bringing a kit lens to the Malacca Zoo was a disappointment experience as I can't really get the shot that I wanted to. Anyhow, I did enjoy my trip there. Here's one of the photo which I really like.
